The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) took effect on 1 April 2010. It is the UK’s first mandatory emissions trading and energy saving scheme and is aimed at substantial organisations which are large consumers of energy but either do not participate in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme or have a major part of their activities regulated by an existing Climate Change Agreement with the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
